Have you looked at the T4i?

EXACTLY what I was thinking. It's a solid camera and the technology is actually a bit better than the 7D. If you were only shooting sports than the 7D would be a better fit.

If the T4i body is too small then a grip would work wonders.

In what regards? viewfinder coverage, AF, weather sealing, FPS?

Hybrid sensor incorporating AF sensors for video, for one thing. DIGIC5 processor for another. STM focusing support for a third.

BUT the Hybrid sensor and STM support are only important for shooting video, and even then, of questionable value. The main value in the Digic 5 is for shooting JPEGs (NR) and in burst speed, but the burst speed and buffer depth is woeful in comparison to the 7D.

But it is all academic as the OP stated a couple of pages ago that he was going to buy an EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 lens and stick with the XTi while learning more and taking the photography course.

Canon EOS 7D | EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM | EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS |
EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM | 250D | EF-S 10-22 mm f/3.5-4.5 USM | 580 EX II |

I was merely answering the question asked, and it is a true statement (however you try to minimize it) that the T4i has newer tech than does the 7D.

And,if you note, I advised him near the top of the thread to go for the lens and learn more with his XTi.
