Hello everyone and Happy Holidays. My wife gave me an early Christmas gift this year as she wants me to take family Holiday pictures and send out to family and friends.

Does anyone have experience with this lens? I shot a few images around the house and it *appears* I received a good copy...

40mm 1/30sec, hand held no flash (cropped at 8x10 ratio).

I also ordered the following hood replacement as I was informed the wide plate-like hood that comes with this lens is really intended for FF cameras.

I love my 17-40, and I'm not even a wide angle guy :)

But, I use the hood that came with the lens and didn't feel the need to replace it. What is the basis for the recommendation to get an entirely different hood. Given the smaller angle of view on a 1.6 crop camera, this wouldn't seem like a critical issue to me. Is it that you can get away with a deeper hood without vignetting?
