So I just picked up my new copy of the Canon EF 100-400L and took my very first photos with it. This is amongst them and I'm quite pleased with the sharpness and focus. This photo is a crop, by the way.

looks good, how does it look when you crop it more to lose some of that dead space?

It looks better Rick. I posted this simply because the 100-400L was a brand new lens to me and I hadn't had many opportunities to get out and take images with it. After posting, I realized that it was a rather boring photo and I went back and cropped it some more. I think it looks better but it's still no prize winner. :) Anyway, good thought, apparently great minds think alike. ;) Anyway, this is a fairly large crop but I think I'll go back and try again, cropping so as to keep all three ducks in the frame. I was trying to use the rule of thirds for this crop and to show some movement or direction but I think it might actually look better with a fairly tight crop on all three ducks, rule of thirds be damned.
