I believe the plexiglass/plastic you refer to is "high impact polycarbonate", another part which you cannot see is Butyrate

I pack it when going solo in the Scottish mountains, it is a last resort backup for myself or anyone I stumble upon who needs evac. Some of the places I go render a compass useless due to geological factors and terrain may inhibit phone signals.
