Flippin' Kingfisher

This female BK showed me some flippin' skills, she was tossin' and flippin' the poor fish until she swallowed it. My only wish was better light as I have to shoot this at 1/500 shutter speed. I think she will be around for a few more weeks and hopefully I can get some better light, and maybe some IF shots.

Those are wonderful. Love watching birds manipulate the fish they catch to get them down the ole "hatch"!

Good for you, Jo; what a great series. I saw one this spring repeatedly thwap a little bullhead against my dock to kill it before swallowing it. Also, kingfishers stay quite late into the fall, so you should have many more great opportunities.
