Needed to shoot a meeting with our Scout troop and our local congressman for my son, and I knew it would be a fairly small meeting room, so I was torn between the 17-40 and the 24-70. I didn't want to use flash since I felt it would be distracting, so I decided in advance to take the 24-70 for the extra stop. I was shooting the 5D at ISO 800 and it worked out really well, though I got few usable shots since it was tough to get the congressman talking and the scouts in the frame looking interested, at the same time ;)

On the plus side, I did get the "big camera/lens treatment." Despite the fact that half the parents there pulled out cameras (all P&S), when I pulled my rig out of the pack, the congressman's district manager pulled me over to a better vantage point and asked if this would be an acceptable place to shoot from. :)

Oh yeah, I've had people pat me on the back, kind of pushing me to the front of things saying "oh no no no, you step right up".

It's quite nice, I must say. :-D

I haven't processed any yet (I shoot in RAW), but I'll post a few when I get time to do so.

I've had that happen a few times, even when I wasn't the official photographer or carrying credentials. I think it's even more pronounced with a big, white lens. Wear a Domke vest, and you'll blend right in with the press :)
