Hi all
I am not a photographer at all but I bought my Pro1 about 2 years ago because I wanted the latest and greatest so I paid $995 for it....Now I have found another
use for it and I was hoping some of you pros might help me, or steer me in the right direction.
About 6 months ago I took up metal detecting and relic hunting as a hobby and I have been trying to photograph and catalog my finds. I cannot get small items such as coins to focus well when I try to zoom in on them...I get very little detail at all and also
my pictures are huge when I try to post them to the forums I visit. I just want to post normal size pictures without having to resize them to the 280 height by 620 width
maximum allowed.
The only change I have made to the camera is a UV filter basicly to protect the lens.
I dont have the money to buy another one, but from what I have read, this camera should do the job no problem.
I have Photoshop 7.0 if my problem is a simple editing problem, but I'm sure it is my
ignorance about the equiptment I'm using.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Phil from SC

Welcome rotty23

If you search to the right threads, you will find all the answers to your problems in this forum.
Better star by learning to use the Macro and Supermacro modes of the Pro1, check the manual first, then search the threads for specific help.

The only way to get sharp macro pictures is to know the allowed distances from the camera to the subject and the allowed zoom settings.

Check this post about those settings, there are also references to the pages of the manual about Macro and Supermacro.

Check the pictures at the beginning of the same thread, although some of them were shot with accessories, the only thing you need is the Pro1 to shot great macro images.

Shot in large format (L or M1), with Photoshop 7 you will learn to resize the images for web.

Go on step by step.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum rotty223
rpolitsr pretty much said it all.
Have fun and
Merry Christmas

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

A) Push the button that looks like a tulip (flower) when shooting up close in macro mode.

B) In Photoshop use the save for the web option under File, that should allow you to put in some dimesions (ie 640 pixles width) to save a smaller version of your photo before posting or emailing.

C) Keep reading and have fun:D

As you're shooting a close, static subject under controlled conditions, you ARE using a tripod and firing the shutter by remote release or timer, aren't you ??

I disagree with those above who recommend shooting macro and then resizing in PhotoShop. Since you just want to end up with a 620x280 image, forget about the macro and supermacro settings altogether. Just take the shot from the closest distance that'll give you a sharp picture (large format, long end of the zoom) and then use the PhotoShop crop tool to cut 620x280 pixels out of the middle with your coin in.
