Golden opportunity to fly a trip to Africa again this year and took a break from safari's to take my fist bird shots. We were in Mwanza, Tanzania, on the south shore of Lake Victoria. There were plenty of birds around including herons, kingfishers and lots of kites. These were shot using my 50D with 2xTC III and 70-200mm ISL 2.8. Most were shot at 1/800. Please let me know how I did, and if you would like to see more. I'm not a normal bird shooter and it took me a while to ID these, so if they're wrong please correct them.
I moved towards the beach and several departed immediately. They circled around for several minutes to see I wasn't a threat (400mm worth of lens must be scary to a bird)
Finally a couple landed and continued to do what they were previously - getting wet in the surf. I was sitting about 20 yards away.
I waited patiently until he took off straight at me
I was tracking this one in a different area
Then he noticed me! ACK!
Another looking for a place to land
Thanks for looking.
