Thank you, I took the plunge and bought a 24-105 for the 7d....will spend next few days clicking ;) and share my thoughts....although I also want to understand what micro adjustment does to you? When does one need it?

Enjoy your new glass.

Micro adjustments are needed when the lens miss the focus just a tiny bit all the time (focus on something before or before the focus point), and you want to adjust the focusing.

Its not meant for very big adjustments but a bit subtle ones. If you lens really miss the focus by a big margine, it might need recalibration.

Where are you based as if UK there is a retailer selling the 24-105L for £609 which is the best I could find. I have a 7D and made my mind up on the same lens as I prefer the length. I havent yet taken the plunge more to do with finances than decision making :)
