how do you interrupt/stop a long shutter

The title says it. Say you are in the middle of waiting for a 30 second exposure. How can you stop it?

Good question. I usually turn the camera off. If there's a better way I'd be interested too.

During the exposure every button and dial on my 7D is unresponsive. Besides turning off the power switch I have discovered opening the memory card door stops it.

Power off and on seems to be the only way. I wouldnt open up the door as it can cause write issues that could affect the entire card.

On/off. Alternatively, use bulb mode and time the exposure yourself. :)
