If you turn off the camera, it will write whatever it has of the image before shutting down, so you can't do any harm.

I haven't tried taking out the battery in the middle of an exposure though.

why worry, if 30's is to long then you don't have long to go after you have figured that out.

and your not going to damage the sensor in anyway.

This is true, but i often take long-exposures at/after sunset.. where the change of available light drops rapidly( enough that it can change 1/3 stop in that time). I just turn off and back on quickly. I guess if i'm 1/2 way through the exposure, i might wait.... but more times than not, i realize i did/didn't do something.. 1-3 seconds in.

Exactly. The camera will not "shut down/crash" if you turn it off, it will finish what was started(exposure) by stopping the current action and then writing the file to memory...THEN it turns 'off'.
Absolutely no damage should come from doing this..(afaik)

Battery removal is a completely different thing though...that could damage something if done often..
I am sure the camera has fail-safes to close the shutter/mirror,etc even when power is disrupted like that, but I dont want to be the guinea pig for this experiment..
I will just turn the switch to off ;)

OR like Master Chief said, and what I always(try to) do, use Bulb and time the exposure myself... :)

Yea, 30s isn't exactly a big deal usually, but when I have done it most often it is because I had a 10 minute exposure and am 1 minute into the 'long exposure NR' and realize I did something wrong.

Then I'm not too keen to wait.

Shake the hell out of it and throw it to the ground while sounding like a sand person in Star Wars.

I think this was a direct quote from the Canon manual. Please site your sources next time.

This is where a "like" button would come in handy.
