Dunno if anyone has posted this already but entering code xmasraw at check out gives a 'Xmas discount' and allows you to buy for $79 rather than $99 ... finally made me upgrade from the freebie version. Now I need to get serious with my PP for therein is the secret to all this digital nonesense ;)

Just make sure you use the trial version first. I downloaded RSP, and I don't care for it. I sure am glad I tried before buying.

Vjack, what didn't you like about RSP? I've been using RSE and was considering upgrading. what are the primary improvements in RSP?

In comparing ACR with RSP, I am just not finding anything that RSP can do that ACR can't. Given that ACR comes with CS2, I find no compelling reason to pay $79 for RSP.

I can't help you with the RSE vs. RSP comparison because I never used RSE.

Check their web site for a compo ... personally, I have a 350D and didn't want to upgrade my PS CS to use it with RAW.

Even better ... I'm wondering if there is any color engine discount, but also wondering why the hell it isn't built in anyway

Well you boys have been very, very naughty waiting this long to help out your fellow POTNers. I think you should both buy a homeless person a hot meal and let that be a lesson to you!!

Only sat down and read the magazine yesterday Dave, give a guy a break! ;)

Was playing with the 24-70 yesterday, that 2.8 is sure a challenge! Keeps you on the ball for focussing, but looks good! Great to have a lens that you have to really work at but you know can deliver the goods if handled right!

All the standard zooms I used have been less than ideal at 2.8 and personally I would say the very best results will come at around 5.6 day to day if light allows. I'm wondering if this is why there are sometimes complaints about these fast zoom lenses, especially the Canon because maybe the expectations are too high and the 'craft' too low. People expect prime quality. I would normally use it stopped down and then use 2.8 only if I needed the lower light performance.

You're right about the whole DOF thing tho' ;-)a it really is a challenge to compose at times. You have to plan more than point and shoot more often than not. The reward with these fast fella's seems to be great 'pop' and very classy bokah so it's worth the trouble.

I'm looking forward to trying my Pentax 50mm 1.4 when I get the damned adaptor. It'll be a learning curve. I'm used to long lenses f4.0 and up and now my slowest is f3.5! Some of the shots even with that one wide open have been razor thin on focus. Have a look at the German sausages here:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=115374

Wafer thin slice of focus. No wonder people complain when they can't capture what they can see in front of them ;)

Dave,

Have yet to try either outdoors but was using 2.8 with pop-up flash just to see!! Sharpness seems as advertised... just need that 20D to go with it now. Pleased to see you keeping in the game with the 350D!
