I'm having trouble coming up with a configuration that I like for my second camera body for my night football games. My main body is a 1DIV with a 300 2.8 with flash mounted below the camera on my monopod. My second body is a 1DIII with a 70-200 that I keep on a Spider belt at my side. In most stadiums I need flash, especially in the end zone, which is where I primarily use the second body. I haven't been able to come up with a way to mount the flash that is satisfactory and still keep the camera portable (not on a monopod). Any suggestions would be much appreciated, or if there is a good link with some good examples, that would be great as well. I searched but couldn't find anything.

Not sure if you are looking for a way to carry a 2nd camera also with off camera flash. If so I'm curious to see the replies myself.
I carry my 2nd camera with a flash attached on a Black Rapid strap. I have no problems with it obstructing my movement.

Because of my lower back issues, I really like my spider belt (http://www.bhphotovideo.com …Single_Camera_System.html (external link)), but I haven't found the optimum flash bracket.

What about rigging up the flash with a remote trigger, for both cameras? Maybe with 2 transmitters, one for each camera, and a receiver on the flash? I was thinking about the same thing actually, since my primary is a 1D4 and backup is 1D3 as well, and lenses are exactly the same...

That might work, but I would need to think about it. If I'm picturing (pun intended) this right, I'd have to basically try to balance the monopod in the same position as when shooting the 1dIV while capturing the shot with the other camera. That might be too much of a balancing act, but it might be possible. Right now, I'm just mounting a flash on the 1dIII and pretty much sticking to portrait orientation and dealing with redeye in LR. I could also try buying a second Spider camera plate to put on the bottom of my 1dIV and swap the cameras out on the monopod. I'm not sure how the 300 would balance on my side. I'll have to experiment with that to see if that's workable.

Yea, true. I can see how you'd have to hold the monopod in the right direction. It'd be hard to hold the camera with one hand and spin the monopod. Getting a plate would be a good idea, that way you could do a quick change with the cameras. Holding the camera with the 300 might be an issue. Bring someone with you for them to hold it... :)

I'm always nervous about using flash, even for outdoor sports. I have that feeling that I'll screw up the athlete somehow. I never use one indoors though. I'm going to try my best to get to games in the next few weeks so I have a longer time in daylight. But it will also be my first season with the 1D4, so we'll see how it goes. I'll still think, and if you come up with something please let us know.
