EOS 60D - Broken small top LCD screen - replace it?

Hi.

My small top LCD screen on my EOS 60D is broken. It has a small crack. But the topp glass is not damaged. I find that strange...

Anyway, I find "small to lcd screen" on ebay for a few bucks.

Is it easy to change the small top LCD screen myself? My local repair shop wants about $250 for the job (any maybe Canon will pay for it.)

I have a feeling the top window is plastic so when impact damage happened, it flexed while the glass LCD underneath didn't...

I suspect the part wouldn't be too difficult to replace yourself, but it would depend on your skill level as well. The LCD part itself isn't available from Canon, rather the whole top cover assembly comes as one unit. ( part number CG2-2847-000 if it helps any)

added as an edit; If you really need the LCD panel, then it is a major deal as the entire top of the camera body needs to be replaced, hence the $250.

Its a simple task to replace the top cover, you can likely find some online procedures on how to do it with other Canon models. Anyway the top LCD cover is on with double sided tape so with care it can be pried off. I would use something like a hair dryer to soften the adhesive, just be carefull of the heat level so you don't damage something else.

An online search indicates the P/N's for the cover is CB3-6581 and CB3-6587 for replacement double sided tape.

Why would Canon want to pay for the top window replacement? Was it cracked when you got it from the store???

You've got to be joking, the LCD is bleeding, that's a terminal problem for the LCD screen itself.

The actual LCD screen needs to be replaced not the plastic cover, but I would not try and replace the entire top cover yourself, thats fraught with danger given the seals ,numerous connectors and the main control knob, best to let the experts at Canon do it.
