I was pointing out that AVCHD may not be the best choice, since it is highly compressed, and it is hardly a breakthrough to do 1080/60p AVCHD. Also, bit rate is everything in video quality.

I wasn't commenting on DSLR v camcorder, but Sony v Canon.

But, since you bring it up, while DSLR video does have advantages from the large sensor DOF, lens selections, etc. HD video itself is actually quite low resolution so you may not get as much from that sensor as you are expecting.

If they'd announced 4K video, then that would be something to crow about. 1080/60p AVCHD? Not so much.

In body stabilization
likely the best sensor
Fast framerate
Lot lighter than competition
Articulating screen

Not saying I'm switching, just listing some legit reasons to ponder.

I wasn't asking you unless you use multiple accounts on here. And the a99 only does like 5 or 6 fps with autofocus. Sony's gimmick on fast fps has always been without focusing and without metering. They always wow buyers with specs but the details are given in the manual that show the limitations. Poor ethics on sony's part.

Here's Kirk Tuck's take on the A99 (external link)

Canon and Nikon customers are more or less locked into their respective systems because of the lens and strobe investments. The two big SLR manufacturers can afford to take the safe route and leave it to Sony experiment with a mirror-less system and EVFs. If Sony scores a hit you'll see Canon and Nikon following along soon. In the meantime not too many folks are going to make the migration to Sony.

My equipment is in desperate need of upgrade. I am considering the Sony offering because it has a strong feature to price ratio when compared to the Canon 5D III. However, when I think about having to sell my Canon lenses for a loss and switch to Sony Strobes, sticking with Canon seems the better choice.

It's an open forum, relax. You may think the fast shutter is gimmicky, but I can tell you that there's plenty of legit use for it.

Is in body stabilization gimmicky as well?

How about producing sensors for Nikon, fujifilm, Olympus, ect. ?

1080@60fps...
I don't like Sony as a company, but can't fault their specs as gimmicky...

I like the AF system update for the Mark III but it's not enough to make me run out and buy. While I expect they've spruced it up a bit the focus arrays may just be more gimmicky than reality.
