I was a little disappointed that the new manual [for Version 2] for the 7D is still antiquated.

For example Sony A77 manuals have that 'jump to page' facility. By that I mean if you are in the index and see a feature on page 192 you just double click on it; and that page opens.

Not so important on a laptop but really helpful on the iPhone 4S and I guess all smartphones.
As this is the place to keep ones manuals i.e. always available I was surprised that the new manual is still the old style scroll and scroll and scroll.

Well Canon if you are reading take note please! You missed a nice opportunity there. PS I would happily have paid say £10 for that alone.

So here is my real question is there a way one can load the existing manual into Adobe or something and update it to have this facility?

If the file is not protected you should be able to edit it with Adobe Acrobat Pro if you know any one that has it.

I can take the 7D owner's manual PDF and jump immediately to any page by entering that page #. I assume you mean that they are still not defining their PDF content with hyperlinks so that Adobe can honor it when you click on those links, like page numbers?

Yes thats what I meant TeamSpeed. I just wondered if there was a simple way to update it so one can double click on the page number and end up there instantly. really useful when its on the iPhone 4S.

The pdf manual is password protected for editing. Assuming you could circumvent that, it would be pretty easy to do this but it would be tedious given the number of links you would need to create manually.

My advice.....
Buy the kindle version of David Busch's CANON EOS 7D. There's a lot more information than the manual and it is totally searchable. :-)

I am serious....and don't call me Shirley.
Canon 7D and a bunch of other stuff

Or you can just go completely old-school analog, and actually carry the owners manual with you. It is quite small. It will fit in your pocket, unless you have small pockets.

Alternatively you might get the PDF version of "Canon EOS 7D for Dummies" (ISBN - 0470595914)
When I open it in Adobe PDF reader 9.0 an index is shown in the left margin.

Out of interest does anyone know if the 5DMk III's manual have these hyperlinks?
