Now get extension tubes to work with it, and you are on your way to shooting insects better...the longer FL range (than your 18-55) will allow longer 'working distance' -- greater distance between the lens and the living subject, many of which don't do well with intrusion quite so close to them.

What do you mean by upgrade? This new lens picks up where your current lens leaves off. You have 18-250 covered now between them. As Wilt mentions, grab some extension tubes and will have a great starter kit that covers all of the wants you listed.

Many of these cheap sets don't allow the lens to comunicate with the camera. The Kenko tubes are great, I have those, but for half the money many people are pleased with the ones from Polaroid, here http://www.ebay.com …m1e6f872d1c#ht_1322wt_922 (external link)?

I can't speak for them, but if you search POTN for Polaroid Extension Tubes, you will see plenty of information. That is thing about thos forum, rarely will you be the first to buy a lens or something else, search here for feedback and arm yourself with education before you purchase again now that you have found us.

Good Luck and welcome.

You add them between the lens and the camera, so you take themoffwhen not using them. Search POTN for info on eBay tubes I can't speak to them at all. On a side note, you will be happy with blowing your budget on that lens.

Between either, just make sure you get tubes that work with EF-F lenses, otherwise they may not fit. Also be careful with the cheap tubes, because if they crack or something the lens hits the floor. The hold quality is a big diffenence between those and the one's I linked to.

I am going to pm you a message a member sent me on tubes when I first started playing with them,it is great info and very helpful. Visit the macro section for some folks that are just amazing with macros.

The big question than is Canon EF 55-250 or Sigma 70-300 mm ? :)

U oh. Trouble brewing. There is no EF 55-250 lens. The lens being recommended is the EF-S 55-250. It's important, because you wrote this:

deviangel wrote in post #14935982 (external link)
also I can buy this one

http://www.ebay.com …enses&hash=item35bf350012 (external link)

Canon EF 55-200 mm

This is the EF 55-200, a quite different, older, and much inferior lens to the EF-S 55-250.

So - what did you actually buy: the EF 55-200 or the EF-S 55-250?
