Being as I don't yet have any children, and we're celebrating the 1st aniversary of adopting our "baby", Sam, I thought that I'd post a couple baby pics. This is Sam at 6 months...

Looks like a very handsome fellow, but he is out of focus, only the tip of his nose. How about trying to shoot at a higher f stop and use the flash.

Photography is my only pathological addiction; hopefully it won't drive me to something worse.

If you shot these thinking you'd like to use a blue option, then I would say great capture. The nose shot is intriguing because of the contrast of the depth and focus (or lack thereof).

I must admit, I knew that the DOF would be narrow when taking the picture given the fact that the lens was wide open, but I did not expect the eyes to be so out of focus- the really aren't that far from the focal plane. I had the image in my "I can't do much with this" folders for several months- until my wife found it at loved it. The more I look at it now, the more I like it. I think that is because it is a very true representation of his personality- he is as soft and gentle as can be, and for some reason, to me at least, the image portrays that. One question though- what is the "blue option" that you refer to?

Thanks for the comments. As I mentioned above, I knew the DOF would be small given the f1.8 for the shot; I just didn't expect it to be so narrow. The intention was never for the shot to be in focus from the ears to the tip of the nose...

Is that first shot of one dog, or two? The leg angles seem odd for a single animal.

Just one, although looing at it closely it is not the most natural of positions. He lays like this quite often nonetheless. He is laying on his left side with his belly closest to the top of the frame. The paws that you see in the frame are his hind legs and the 3rd leg visible is his right front. He lays with his head resting on his right hip and somehow is comfortable in that twisted postion. If I ever ended up like that, put me out of my misery because I just don't bend like that...;)
