California Thrasher is my 100-400 ok?

I would appreciate your opinion of these shots taken with the 100-400 lens . It seems like I see sharper images here with this lens. Anyway here is the shot uncropped, followed by the cropped shot. Would you 100-400 owners be pleased with this result?

Looks to me like the post is a little sharper than the bird. Now, is it you or the lens? Hopefully, you caused it to focus on the post and the lens did swell.

My shots seem to be better in MF then AF? I shot this using single center point focus, put it right on the bird.

I don't know. I'm fairly new with that lens and sometimes have it focus short of my mark. Then I get a very sharp focus, on target. I assume I am not always holding the focus point steady. Keep trying before drawing any conclusions.
