I got asked to do some photography work by a friend who works in PR for a company who are holding an awards ceremony. My role is not to shoot the ceremony such as speeches, introductions, venue etc but to shoot the winners as the come from the stage and pose with their award.
Typically I would have said no to this as portrait photography isn't something I have much experience in. But, I want to take a chance this time. Let me explain a little bit about myself.
Firstly my gear is as described in my signature. I believe I have mentioned my 430 ex II in there. I also have a medium flash bender.
Learning flash photography is relatively new to me but I understand bouncing ( which I'll be doing with the flash bender). I understand FEC and, obviously manual control of ambient light. Just not highly experienced with flash.
I guess my question is about composition for these particular shots. I will be trying to capture the importance of the award by shooting low. I think there won't be any more than 4 people accepting an award so intend to use my 70-200 at around f8 if I have space.
For many if not all of you, this exercise will be an easy gig. But I just don't want to turn up and shoot. If you have any tips, I would greatly appreciate them.
