This is my first macro I ever shot. This little arachnid insists on rebuilding his web on my front porch. Despite his forced relocation twice at the hand of my 12" twig, he remains persistent. I received my new 100mm L and Kenko tubes a few days ago... it's as if he is insisting to be photographed.

1DX with 100m L, 36mm Kenko tube, and 600EX-RT flash. 1/80 at f/18 ISO 1250. C&C as always appreciated. No tripod here but I do recognize it would help.

I do realize this shot comes nowhere close to the amazing photos on this thread, but one must start somewhere, right?

Adam

Really nice shot. I don't see any motion blur, but if you want to, with that body you could crank the ISO up a few more stops to speed up your shutter, and you wouldn't really need a tripod.

Excellent start, in fact just plain excellent.

Take care, macro is addictive.

Nice job!
BTW I'm not sure a tripod would help here as I guess it would be hard to set up. Your short flash duration is going to freeze any movement esp. at iso1250 which the 1DX seems to handle admirably. I along with many other shoot all my insect macros handheld.

It's funny. Until about a month ago I used to hate bugs and spiders. Then I travelled on vacation to Costa Rica and visited the Osa peninsula / rain forest. We did a night tour with a guide known as the "bug lady". She was fantastic. I left with a new found appreciation for the nature around me. I then found myself glued to this subforum and in true POTN fashion I was back on the Bh Photo site buying a macro lens and tubes. I need to go back to Osa again after more practice.
