Hey Burnet44, You've posted a lot of photos that are really great. Very sharp and bright. But I've noticed that they have been consistently noisy. I'm wondering if you are sharpening, without noise reduction in a program like lightroom. Can you tell us what processing you do? Also, what lens are you using for most of your sports photog?

Im a newbie and dont mean to be critical. I just want to know your procedures so I can learn.

Im currently using a cheap little Rebel with a 70-200 f4. Ive actually found that my white balance set at "cloudy" works pretty well for night games. Maybe even better than custom. So Im able to use less noise reduction in Lightroom.

I dont have PS, so I only have some (just a beginner) experience with LR4. Im only shooting with a f4 70-200, so im really up against noise for night games. I have found myself using less sharpening because the photos are already noisy to begin with, so I dont need to make it any worse. I dont use NR enough to where the image looks soft (like a dreamy image), so its a balancing act. Some people dont mind noise, but it bugs the hell out of me.

Also, (if you haven't already) try playing with the Detail slider the noise reduction section. That one surprised me with how much influence it has. More when the Sharpening and Luminance (noise reduction) are in a certain area (their relation to one another).

Ill play with my recent photos when using the Cloudy setting I tried and see how they come out, and Ill post some up.

Jeremy

Semi-finals of the playoffs. First game all year that a team stayed within 30 points. We won 18-0 with our two main RB's out. The other team hadn't been held below 21 points all season, and we gave up 55 total yards to them. On the season, our starting D has given up 2 touchdowns. I'll give them credit though, they were the first team that could have held us to under 60 if we wanted. With our two starters in, i still think we would have won 30-0 or 40-0. They're that important to our offense. With that said, we're still 13-0 and one game away from back to back state titles.

Looks pretty good to me! Maybe a tad more contrast. I usually like the medium setting in the tone curve, under the point curve. Ive tried to do a manual tone curve, but for now, Ive found the medium setting is as good or better than what I can do.
