Hi,
Any help appreciated! I'm a newbie to DSLR upgrading from a compact ready to start next stage of appreticeship.
I bought a EF-S 17-85 for my 20D. The lens size is 67mm so naturally at the same time bought a Hoya Cir-Polarizer 67mm filter, but it does not fit the lens.
Is there a reducer, thread type or some other adapter I need or is it a case of a larger filter? The lens hood I had to buy as an extra seems to be a twist and click fit rather than a thread...so now I'm confused..........

Why do you say the filter does not fit the lens? Is it possible that you aren't aware that the filter itself can rotate in the threaded mount? If you're holding only the ring that is supposed to be able to rotate when the filter is mounted to the lens, it is possible that there is not enough friction to make the threads engage. You need to put your fingers around the threaded ring to screw the filter onto the lens.

Many of Canon's hoods mount to the lens body, not the filter threads. This is a good thing, because when you whack the hood against something the force is transferred to a much more robust body than to moving portions of the lens assembly.

Skip is correct, so make sure you fit the filter before the lens hood or you might not get the leverage to screw it on...

It`s me!! Thanks for the help guys ... great to find a forum where people are helpful and don`t rip newbies to shreads! I didn`t realise the filter is threaded inside and out, also helps if you offer it up to the lens the right way!! Skip was spot on, the filter turns in the housing which confused me...mind you that's not hard to do!
