I am a Former Rebel owner. I've owned my 60D for 1 week now and I have absolutely NO complaints. The swivel/tilt screen is awesome! The top LCD screen is very useful because you can keep the rear screen shut while shooting and still see your useful info (even at night since it lights up). The control layout is all on the right so you can do almost anything with your right hand. Twice the battery life is really nice (over the t3i and 4i) its like getting a free grip battery, and if you add a grip later you should get 4x the battery life. Lets seee what else... oh you can do post processing on the camera, it has onboard RAW editing tools -I know the Rebels dont have that. Bigger brighter viewfinder, rear auto focus button, you can set you shuttter speed and aperature like a pro with the 2 dials!!

All I want now is GLASS more GlASS please :D

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have decided that if I upgrade now, it will be the 60D. The T3i has been eliminated, and a FF would be sometime in the future (if at all).

So right now, I'm looking at XSi vs 60D. However, having read through some of the threads here, I subscribe to the advice that I should NOT upgrade unless I can actually identify a limitation on my current body that can be remedied by upgrading. So I'd like some advice on this issue.

Obviously I'd get video ability, but while that would be nice, I think ultimately it's not a must-have for me, as I do have a camcorder.

The three biggest issues for me are:

(1) Low Light capability: I am ok with my XSi up to ISO 800, not too pleased with 1600, and obviously no ability to go higher.

(2) AF : AF seems a bit slow, esp tracking moving objects.

(3) IQ: I'd like a noticeable (even if small) improvement in overall IQ when comparing with identical lenses.

I know there are tons of other "considerations" such as handling/ build quality/ size, but I don't care much about this right now, as I find my XSi adequate in those areas. The above 3 are my primary and probably only considerations in upgrading.

So my question would be: Would a 60D address and improve upon these issues (thus making it a legit upgrade), or are these things that can and should be remedied through better photographic technique and practice (thus something my XSi can handle)?

Thanks!

I agree with the others, just go ahead and buy the 60D. I have the XSi but I'm pleased with ISO 1600 on the XSi and I even go above that using PS but the 60D will give a lot more things - video, AF, FPS rate, buffer, etc.,

a 1600 ISO pic just for the heck of it
ISO 1600 on the XSi /450D

is it pleasing or not?

Thanks guys, just placed an order for the 60D. Plus Amazon had a promotion $250 off the 70-300mm lens, so I got that too. Plus a SLR backpack and a 16gb SD card. All for about $1050, I guess not too bad (esp if I flip the lens).

Thanks again, I'm really looking forward to getting this thing and trying it out!
