Canon 7d v 5d mark 3

If I take a framed full image with a 7d then take the same subject from the same position with the 5d; what will be the IQ differences when the 5d image is cropped to be identical to the uncropped 7d image?

Are you debating which camera to buy?

There is much more that seperates the two bodies.

What an awesome way to start of Tuesday morning.Great question. Save your money, get a 7D.When you yourself can answer the very same question you've just asked, then it will be time to upgrade to the 5D series if you are interested.

If the budget allows, and you don't have to have the 1.6x crop factor or slighty higher FPS from a 7D, then the 5DIII is a no brainer.

I almost want to suggest a pair of 7D's over the 5DIII just for a laugh lol

No, it'll be worse because the 7D image will have higher resolution and sharpness. The 7D compresses a similar amount of pixels into a smaller area.

However true this might be, it doesn't really come into play depending on what you print, for example, 8x10s or even a bit larger, you really won't see any of the advantages you list for the 7D.

A camera is just a tool. Consider hammers. A cheap hammer will drive a nail just a well as an air gun. Drive lots of nails with a cheap hammer and you'll be looking for a better tool pretty quickly.

Image quality between cameras is virtually indestinguishable. Less noise perhaps on a 5D3, but if you're going to get a 5D3 to crop to the same image size a an APS-C image, save your money.

Real image quality differences result between cameras when you use each to their strengths. Given the same lens, you will recompose your shot on the full frame camera, changing the DOF. You will also use more of the lens.

Study the images posted in each of the threads created for image sharing for each camera and you will see differences. Maybe those differences are because the photographers are more skilled on one thread, or less on the other. Maybe those differences are because the tool is better. Or maybe those differences are just perception. You must decide for yourself as others have for themselves.

As others have said, do your homework.
