Yes, I also use my iphone when I dont have my dslr. I dont carry my dslr around my neck but I would do it with a x100. It's a lot smaller and you can use a very thin strap. That way, no problem with the pockets!

I hope the Fuji XE-1 price will be just alright!

I'm just not the type to walk around with a camera strapped to my neck at all times. If I'm doing so with the intention of taking photos, it doesn't matter to me if it's a bigger dSLR. I could see a lot of people buying this in lieu of a dSLR though.

I was tempted by the looks of the x100, but couldn't afford it during the initial "rush" when it was way overpriced due to availability issues. Now I'm glad I didn't buy it; fixed lens, large, poor AF, buggy UI, a smaller compact fits my needs far better and my wallet is much happier for it.

But I dont think your small compact have the same IQ though... Not big deal of course as it didn's cost a grand.

I am in the same situation. I love the design but it's too expensive. Rather put the money toward a 5D mark II or even the new Nikon D600 if it's revolutionary.

I have had my X100 for 1 1/2 years... Love it... works out great when I do not want to carry my 5DMIII, 5DMII or 5D around....

Here they say a price for the new X-E1.

1000$ for the body, 1400$ with a lens... quite expensive.

It most definitely has better IQ at anything other than 35mm ;)

But yes, the x100 beats my s95 handily in IQ. However, my s95 goes with me in my pocket almost everywhere; I get shots with it that I would otherwise have missed.

The point however, is that the x100 has a different purpose to compacts like the s95, and you have to figure out why you want a smaller camera than your DSLR, otherwise you could end up buying twice.

I dont use my older point%shoot because the IQ is crap and the cam is slow.

I have fun when I bring only 1 prime lens with me on my dslr. I believe the x100 would feel roughly the same.

Is the AF on the x100 that bad?? I though the new firmware had fixed that...

Latest firmware made the focus on the X100 a non issue. Excellent camera for just taking along with you anywhere you go. I travel a lot for business and take the X100 with me without even knowing I have it. Images from it are DSLR quality.

I simply use my phone because it's always with me. I feel like even the point & shoot requires a deliberate effort since it takes up the other pocket and leaves no room for my keys. Since I hate stuffing my pockets, we're in bag territory and once we're in bag territory we may as well carry the dSLR.

I put mine into a jacket pocket and have no issues. No way I could do thst with a DSLR.

I don't wear a jacket in the summer. I do wear pants though and the phone fits in their pockets.

I have an iPhone and never use the camera. For me, pushing a shutter should result in a photo I would like to print. I just don't see this quality from an iPhone, so for me, why bother if the resulting photo will be subpar?

I never print my snapshots. It's just fun sharing stuff.

The primary reason why I would want a vintage looking small cam is for Street Photography. Right now I use my t3i with a big 15-85mm in front of it. It do the job well but people notice me a lot. Maybe more because I am a white boy in Japan though. There's also always the risk (quite high here) to pass for a pervert. If you have what's look like an old camera, they understand that you are in "arty photo" stuff right away. They tag you in a safe way. Not same thing with a dslr or a modern point and shoot.

That was the main reason. Now I have another one: Did you see that swivel screen on the Olympus OM-D? Brilliant! Way better than my t3i swivel screen for street photography. (the t3i swivel LCD go on the side of the cam when pointed upward. People can see it).

However I am waiting photokina to see if a cheaper Full Frame cam will be announced for Canon. If that can drive the 5D mark ii price lower, I might put my money on that.
