Hi, I am in the process of upgrading my mbp adding a 256GB ssd.

Just noticed that its running on 4GB RAM - am I likely to see a noticeable improvement taking that to 8GB?

Depending on the apps running, and running in parallel, very likely. You can look at the pages in/out in activity monitor to get a better idea. I would jump to 16GB if the MBP can handle it as it is the same installation work

Having 4-8GB more in memory and a SSD together should make a big different in boot times and many app tasks compared to 4GB and spinning disk.

Checked and my mbp can handle only 8GB.

I was just looking for options when I came across Crucial 8GB for 37$. And when I checked out, Amazon applied a 20$ promo and I ended up with 8GB RAM for 16$......unbelievable...

For $16 you can not go wrong!

What CPU is in the 2009 running? You may find that is more limiting with CS6.

Its a dual core 2.66Ghz.

With the SSD and RAM upgrades, I am hoping to be set for the next 2 years......fingers crossed.

Great deal Kram. I just recently upgraded my RAM to 16gb (cost me 60$ though :( ) Maybe overkill, but it sure makes a HUUUGE difference. I don't even want to know how much faster it will be (if I even need that) if it's running from an SSD. I was planning to upgrade to an SSD, but for the moment the increase in speed is satisfying enough :D
