I was checking my local news on the web, and noticed they did a story about murals that have been popping up throughout the area. One of the murals they mentioned was one I had shot and stitched a few weeks ago. I called them, asked if they wanted my copy, and the guy said to send it over. Lo and behold, they used it on their website - http://www.baynews9.com …bold_bright_murals_p.html (external link)

Now I really wish they would have given me credit, especially since their own staff photographer's photos looked (IMO) not paycheck worthy, but hey, who am I?

Yeah, and even the metadata got removed when they did their editing. To some degree, I'm just happy to see my 'work', but it would have been nice to get the credit, or at least a thank you email.

I doubt I'll be submitting to them again. My wife thinks it's cool though.

Um, email them back pronto and ask for a credit on the website. Using your photo without credit to you is not okay.

email sent, we'll see if they give me credit, or take it down (just asked for the credit, not for them to take it down).

I'm not familiar w/ the photojourno business, but I certainly wouldn't be happy about it.

The staff photographers also got paid for their images, as did the photo editor. Plus the website earns money through advertising, so they will be making money off the OPs image.

And like I said in the first post, the staff photographer's pics are (IMO) crap. But I figure I'll give them this one.

How would one go about approaching them if you were hoping to be compensated? Most of the time it's just viewers sending in phone pics, or from the wires.

This is true. They will take every inch that you give them too, its Brighthouse(a cable company) after all ;) But that a nice photo, and even nicer mural in anycase.

Also, nice to see some one else in my area around here.
