Yeah, it's true, though I still prefer a fixed FL lens..

I find the opposite to be the case.

Many buy a DSLR and a prime because they like that "background turned to mush" look. It takes experience to create an interesting image that includes a lot of back ground detail.

I much prefer my zooms over the primes. And I've had 135L and 35L before. Nowadays I only use prime when its dark and I need the speed.

The PQ of my zooms make me very satisfied. And the flexibility can't be beaten. The primes might have a little bit better PQ but I rather get a shot than missing it due to focal length restriction.

I like primes that are 50mm or bigger (85mm, 135mm) and will never get a wide prime again. I had 24L, 35L, 28mm and never really liked them. So my wide zoom, tele zoom, 40mm and 85mm is more than enough for the stuff I shoot!

Personally I found lenses longer than 85mm all generate similar look image. I chose to have the 70-200 IS II and sold the 135L because the 135L just isn't flexible enough. Now the 100mm f/2 doesn't get much use either :D
