maybe i'm comparing apples and oranges but I have a question about my wide angle

I'm not sure about this. My understanding of the "compression" effect of zooms is that it should not effect sharpness. There is a very good description of this effect by Mr SkipD some months ago in this thread. I could be wrong of course.
