Need some guidance from some of you who may have done something along these lines.

I am donating a couple framed prints to my local Ducks Unlimited Chapter for their use at an upcoming banquet. Wasn't really expecting anything back, but they have offered to allow me a table to display and sell some other work.

I have a pretty good selection of waterfowl work in addition to other mammals - bears, elk, moose, so on.

I need some guidance on how to handle this. Printing on site isn't gonna happen, so I have to take enough to cover any "demand" without coming home with a bunch of leftovers. I can take orders if needed for items I don't print as I will have a laptop with me. Attendance is generally around 200-250 individuals. Specific prints would be my pick.

How many different images would you take, how many of each, and how many different sizes? I was thinking 8*10 and 13*19, each printed with a small black print border around them and in a protective cover (no frames, no matting). I also thought about 5*7 and 8*10 with a couple framed 13*19.

Thoughts or suggestions?

I have done three Ducks Unlimited events in the past four years and have had very good results. I took a selection of large prints from 11x14 up to 24x36 all framed with mattes. I charged alot for these but I have found that, at least in my area, the people that attend these events have disposable income and they will buy expensive items. I did have people inquire about prints without the frames and in those cases I tell them that I can ship them a print but that I wouldn't break down a frame onsite to sell them just the print. I take a 30% deposit on any print orders at the time and commit to having the print in their hands inside of one week. I will take orders for smaller prints like 8x10's but I don't take any to the events.

I have known many of the attendees for many years having hunted and fished with many of them for years so that probably works to my advantage. I quit hunting quite a few years ago but still love putting the boat in the water for a day of fishing. Most of these same people belong to the local fish and game association where I have also sold prints. Its all about networking where you can but I don't go in and give my work away at fire sale prices. I donate one framed 20x24 print for their silent auction at the DU supper. Last year I donated the print but due to other commitments I didn't attend.

The prints that I chose are generally wildlife with some general scenics from the local area. I never sell out so I am carrying some inventory but my prices are set so that if I can sell a couple of large prints I have all of my costs covered. I make sure to use a professional frame shop so that they look top notch and it shows in the interest that I have had for the past events. Would I have this same luck if I went to one of these events where I didn't know alot of the people, I doubt it. I have been asked to donate to DU events out of my local area and I consistently say no. You can only do so much and this is not necessarily a money making gig for me, I feel very strongly about the good that DU and the local fish and game associations do.

I know there have been some other threads specifically about Ducks Unlimited events but couldn't locate them.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
