I actually thought the reference came from the coin collecting hobby, comparing the item to the condition of a coin that has just left the mint and has not (yet) been circulated...

I just got my sh*t together and now I can't pick it up...

I always thought like Tom, that it refered to being like an uncirculated coin ( without any blemishes). I once bought a fishing reel on eBay that was described as mint, that had more than blemishes on it. BE CAREFUL!

Is there a difference between MINT and LIKE NEW? I understand the NEW, never opened, sealed, and all that. But what is the it with MINT? I figure, MINT is used a lot, but not dead, and good is used a lot and on it's way to the dump.

Lol, On ebay sometimes "new" doesnt even mean brand new (as in not used before)

but yes, Mint is supposed to be good condition, but on ebay it might mean "not enough blemishes to list simply as used"
