can anyone help me? today i had my canon EOS 1000d in my bag and i dropped my bag, and now my lens for the camera is broken. is there any way to fix this myself, would it be better getting a repairer to fix it, or just buying a new lens?

as you can see the it has been pushed in and it won't focus at all now and it's extremely hard to move the zoom.

You can find a newer 18-55 with IS for around $100. You would be better off buying a used lens and tossing that one

Yep, I agree, That one has probably had it...Cheaper to replace than to repair.

If that's the non-IS lens, I'm surprised the damage didn't improve the image quality!

It's a goner. Get the IS lens at the very least.

Don't bother paying to fix it, not worth the money. I have seen that kind of issue fixed by applying even pressure to the front of the lens by pushing it down on a table. You haven't got much to lose in trying it but don't expect your lens to last even if it works.

Too bad Canon doesn't have a Loyalty Program for lenses.......

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

It looks like you may have accidentally created the first kit 'tilt/shift' lens

Does it now take pictures around corners?
Have you tried dropping it again to see if it straightens out?
