I have wondered about the wisdom of this combination since I bought them two or three years ago. I am not a professional by any means but have spent some time with cameras.
Does the T!i do justice to this lense? I get quite a variety of results using it on shots whether doing close ups on flowers or landscapes or people.

I have spent quite a bit of time with this setup including changing tripods, remote cabling, mirror lock up, Live View and using a variety of settings for each scene.

Regardless of what combination of settings or setup I use the percentage of good photos is quite low.

(OR, Wrong guy on the shutter release???)

Opinions, Thoughts... ??

Thanks

Jim

I enjoyed mine on my T1i and still enjoy it on my 7D. Personally, the focal range is perfect for me on a crop for what I shoot. Others, of course, prefer something wider for crop (e.g. 17-55) and I can understand that. I think the main appeal on full-frame is the focal range combined with the overall quality and reasonably fast, constant aperture.

Mine is a beauty on t2i and 5dc and it center point focuses in an instant. It is known that the lens has some qi issues and sometimes need re-calibration after a while. Since you camera does not MA, you may want to send at least your lens and probably both to canon service to get them adjusted. If you are close to a service center, you can also drop off and depending on how busy they are, sometimes they can do the same day.

Cost comes to around 100 for lens and 100 for body. Depending on your warranty status, they may do for free, i.e. my t2i and 17-55 was covered by the NJ center.

Good thing that you really tried to get your kit to work for you, I agree with the remark about calibrating if you can spot som consistent AF issue (either consistent front- or backfocus)
What do you think is wrong with your pictures? Please show some examples.
What PP did you apply?
The 24-70L / T1i set is capable of producing good pictures and really nice ones if everything (light, composition, subject and settings) fall into place.

Yeah... can you elaborate and show some examples of good vs. bad pictures and what you think is bad about the bad ones?

Reminds me, mine also had a decentering issue, which could also appear as a misfocusing lens. I agree with the pics so people who may have experience can also see what you are seeing.

Kind of reminds me of my 17-55, which probably became decentered after hitting a door frame while I was turing around taking a photo. I found myself gravitating away from the lens for a few weeks, since it seemed to have lost some of its magic and my keeper rate also dropped significantly. Because of an issue with my t2i, which I was bringing in to canon service, I thought I would bring this lens along. When it came back, it was like I got a new lens.

it does, and because of its weight it pushes the balance point into the lens. It becomes more of holding the lens with a body attached to the back. but wait until people starting sticking their teles on an eos m with ef adaptor.

Okay Guys,
What is the best method of posting a photo on here that is more or less accepted size or whatever you need to make an assessment of it.
I have a Photobucket account but not real familiar with what the resulting photos are.

Thanks

Jim

I did not like the 24-70L + 350D (about the same weight and size of the T1i) combination because it did not feel balanced. However, I had absolutely no problems with image quality from that combination.

i actually feel more comfortable with the added weight of the lense as it helps me when shooting hand held. It seems to match my hand positioning and feels more stable over lighter lenses.
