Hiya Bill,

It's a good start there and looks like a good location to work on these shots.

Comments:
1. Entire scene looks a bit soft/out of focus, to me. Did you make sure your IS was off, and were you using a tripod/shutter release cable or the timer delay?

2. A little bit "wide" there. Most of this scene isn't all that "scenic"; I would suggest getting a bit lower angle, if possible, and then shooting tighter in on the waterfall itself, since that's really the point of interest here.

3. Exposure is a bit high; this is one of the hard parts with doing waterfalls this way. The best way to deal with it, that I've found so far, is to zoom in on the whitewater area and spot meter (in M), adjusting exposure so that the white sits around +2 1/3 on the meter scale. This will help keep those white parts from being so 'hot'.

4. More of a personal taste, but the image is fairly well on the "cool" side...I'd try "warming" it up a bit with a white balance adjustment.

5. A Circular Polarizer (CPL) will really help with shoots like this. It will allow you to remove some of the glare off the rocks where the water is thinly covering the rocks and see some more detail there and in the water. Plus, you'll lose a stop or two of light, that will allow you to decrease your shutter speed and capture a bit more of the motion in the water.

I thought it might have been a bit soft to but I couldn't make up my mind. IS was off, used tripod and timer.

I understand what you mean about angle. The only access is off a bridge so lower angle wouldn't work.

Will play with spot metering next time around and will try bringing the WB up some tonight. Will post result.

Thanks for the ideas and comments!

Leaves are changing around here and I want to head back for a fall shot.

with some editing you could really make this pop. I might have went overboard a bit but its just one of my lightroom presets

C'est La Vie...definitely know how that one goes. Had to walk away from a shot, recently, since I couldn't stand the high angle from a bridge, and there wasn't any good spot lower down to even GET an angle on the falls.

It was a few months ago so to be totally honest I don't recall.

How is this? Turned up temp, increased saturatuion and hue on yellows and greens, backed off of clipped highlights, cropped a bit tighter and added a bit of glamour glow to the water

That's up to you :)

Personally, I'd go back and re-shoot with some of the other techniques and in some better light; with the Fall colors incorporated, if possible.

this scene would be really cool in the fall! I'd also suggest the tighter crop on the waterfall and some of the immediately surrounding trees.

Leaves are already starting to change so should be in a week or two. Also want to get back up there is winter hopefully after a decent snow but still flowing.

Snow/ice and waterfalls can be fantastic combinations!
