The ew-83dII won't work at the wide end. You'll get some pretty bad vignetting. I agree with you guys about the hood being huge! It looks like a Mexican sombrero. :D

Have you tested one to see if it does? I'd be curious to know since I have both Hoods but not the Lens to test it with.

Here's a sample pic. Don't mind the bad composition, etc...this shot is just to show how the smaller ew-83dII causes vignetting at the wide end. It isn't noticeable on the viewfinder of the 20D, but it will show up on the actual image.

That'd be great and thanks. Gotta go to In - Laws for Christmas so I'll check back later.

Hey, Doc, it's daylight now! Let's get with the program and see some sample shots!!!

Seriously, this is a lens I'd like to (eventually) get, so I'd be interested in your opinions of it...

Thanks a bunch for that sample ddelallata ... kinda settles that idea. Do you find a need for the [Big - short - wide] original 17-40L hood when using this Lens?

I'm anal about always using hoods on my lenses, so the answer is yes. I doubt that such a big hood helps that much with this lens unless the sun is almost perpendicular to the front element. To be completely honest...this lens is so well made, that you really have to have the sun directly in front to get some lens flare.

Not meaning to high jack Doc's thread but this Lens is really appealing to me. The more I look at it the more I think I need it.

It's a really nice lens but extreme. You really have to force yourself to play around with the lens, but the more you do the better you get at those crazy wide angles. :D

Bought the lens and now I can't put it down. I blame you lot for this :)

I am loving this lens. Sorry I have not posted, but still getting used to the lens. Here is one I took right after I got the lens. I accidentally got my truck in the picture. It really is W-I-D-E.
