Anyone know what this little bird is? My only clues are it was eating grass seeds and it showed up (for a minute) about the same time as an adult yellow warbler.

Suspect juvenile Blue Grosbeak. Doesn't really fit anything else.

May be displaying my ID ignorance, but isn't it a female housefinch?

The white throat is not right, the back is too solid in color, the streaking on breast is to indistinct and the overall size is wrong. There is no stippling on the head either.

I think it's a juvy house sparrow, the eyes are too big for a Grosbeak.

I'll buy into the Grosbeak - I'm certain it's neither a house finch or a house sparrow.

Well, the beak is certainly grosbeak-like in shape and size. We don't get Blue Grosbeaks this far north so I have never seen one.
