If you live and work within that circle of photographers who make their living shooting pictures in studios and out in the world where/how do you sell your used equipment?

People in the car business know the BEST ways to buy used cars and that carries over to other professions/industries. Think of all the equipment that was recently bought up by the 1,000,000 photographers at the Olympics.

Much of the gear at the Olympics came through either major agencies or Canon...

The agencies probably won't part with anything anytime soon and the Canon stuff will end up in CPS circles. Gonna be a while before that shows up as "refurbed."

My latest purchase was a 1DMkIV I bought directly from another photographer.

Look up Laurie Excell - The Equipment Lady...she sells a lot of pro equipment on consignment in addition to her involvement in the Moose Peterson workshops.

Also take a look at the Fred Miranda Buy and Sell board.... and Luminous Landscape For Sale board carry a fair amount of high-end equipment (lots of MF stuff).

I sell privately. I have a guy who's business is the used market. He checks in with me from time to time to see what I've got. I essentially set a good price for him to make some money on the other end and it's hassle free for me.

sportsshooter isn't a bad place, Fred Miranda forums are good as well. This place isn't bad either. Honestly I prefer to buy used, but I like finding equipment from the rich hobbyists rather than fellow professionals. We tend to abuse our gear.

I don't know for freelancers, but for us as agency (and also other agencies and newspapers I know), we basically don't sell anything. Once things are changed for new ones, they have so many kilometers vehind them, they are worth nothing. So its too much of work bothering with people expecting they will get new stuff for free. So our shooters keep that for personal use, or things stay on shelfs in storage.

Most pros I know try to sell their used equipment to other photographers. I know this because I get the emails and phone calls from them, asking if I want to buy it.

However, these guys usually want pretty close to top dollar. So, their equipment is heavily used, with very high shutter counts, and they want top dollar. Definitely not the best way to buy used equipment. Rather, its about the worst way, in my opinion.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
