My "factory calibration" of my 2410 was very off and blue. For me, not useable as came.

Calibrated it and it is very close to my other monitors. I like it fine, although it takes a while to warm to to full brightness.

Search and you'll see that story is the norm.

I just received my Dell U2410. It is amazing monitor and the colors look great. How many of you still calibrate the monitor?

I've read reviews saying the Dell 2412 needed calibration right out of the box. Reviews on my hp2311xi said it was... for the most part... accurate out of the box. Either way monitors do not stay calibrated from what I understand. I just ordered a Spyder4Express.

Congrats! I have the same monitor and it is indeed great. The problem with calibration is readily apparent when you try to print, things don't look at all as you expect them. The first time I calibrated it (using a colormunki) I thought it looked horrible, all washed-out but after a few hours I got used to it and last but definitely not least what I see is what I print. Now I expect all monitors to look like that.

Cheers,

Lorenzo

I have a U2410, and while it is a great monitor it was really off on calibration.

I wouldn't say rush out and spend money on something right this second, but try to toss $10 a week in a jar, and then invest in a sensor sometime later. Well worth it to have a better idea of where your baseline sits, even if you're not planning to actually print.

My 2410 was waaay off when I got it. Made me wonder why they put the calibration report in the box at all. It had an obvious green bias. Calibrating made a huge and obvious difference.

Nope.
You're an elitist for suggesting that no monitor could ever be accurate without calibration.

You might want to read up on the definition of the word "elitist". And while you're at it, read up on why just about every monitor needs to be calibrated if you want accuracy.
