Can you up grade from LR3 to LR4? I was told that you need to have LR3.5 in order to do that?

Thank you in advance

You can go straight to 4.

It's actually standalone and not an installed upgrade.

Jay there's a difference in price for the full version or upgraded version.

Yes you can.

But you should have updated to 3.5 anyway, which I would suggest doing if you want to transfer the catalog to LR4. No good reason why, it just sounds like the smart thing to do.

It's about a $75 difference. If you already have LR3 ..go for the upgrade

That is just a "loyalty" discount. There is absolutely no difference in the software itself, the only difference is in the registration key; with an upgrade key the program looks in your registry to verify that a previous version was installed. If it does not find this evidence (different computer, for instance) it asks for the serial number of the earlier version.

So we have mixed opinions here or I'm misunderstanding what every one is saying. You can update from LR 3 to LR4 with no issues or just buy the complete LR4 and spend the extra $70.00?

Sure, you can shell out the upgrade price or you can spend the full price like someone who never heard of LR before, but why would you? I'll bet you can, with a little effort, even find someone who will sell it at twice the going rate.

That is correct. If you already own LR3 why didn't you just try to upgrade to LR4 before starting this thread? Were you having problems with the update/upgrade? You should not have issues if you are a legitimate owner of LR3

When you purchase LR4 as an "upgrade", you will get the full version, it will install "alongside" LR3 (not overwrite LR3). But when you pay the discount for the upgrade, the installation will check for the previous version. If it doesn't find that info (with the old serial number) it will prompt you for the previous version's serial number.

I have both LR3.6 and LR4.1 on my computers. I must have uninstalled my old version of LR1.6:)! I just left LR3.6 for reference, since LR4 is capable of "reverting" to the old LR3.6 controls and Process Version. I could uninstall LR3.x and not lose anything!

Because if it wouldn't up grade why make 2 trips. If someone on the forum had a answer it makes it easier. Yes my copy is a licensed copy also...not a boot leg.

Here you go, straight from Adobe. You can upgrade from any LR3.x, 2.x, 1.x version to LR4. http://www.adobe.com …uying-guide-upgrades.html (external link)

Is there a reason why you're using LR3.0 and not an updated version such as 3.6? Newer versions fixed some of the performance bugs.

Just haven't kept up and had some business issues that had to be attended to. Back into the photography and need to step up with my processing.

Thank you very much for the info.
