My PS CS5 lets me choose colors settings, such as North America Prepress 2, dot gain, RGB, etc.
I don't see that ability in lightroom. Is it there and I'm missing it, or is it somehow not necessary?

Thanks

Lightroom will render photos only in an RGB space (the common choices are ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB, and sRGB, but if you have the appropriate profile installed in your system's color folder it will render in any other RGB space). It will not do CMYK or true 8 bit greyscale, so there is no need for all those other settings. The RGB space is selected in the Export dialog for images written to disc or in preferences for "Edit in .." transferrals to PSCS.

Adobe says,
"CMYK files
"Lightroom imports CMYK files but adjustments and output are performed in the RGB color space."
"8th June 2010 with the Introduction of Lightroom 3, Adobe now provide the directly import CMYK files."

LR4 does not support Soft Proofing of CYMK files.

Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't make it easy to understand how to export CYMK files, in spite of their claims.

What claims? Lightroom doesn't export CMYK.

Their claim about ability to IMPORT might be wrongly interpreted by folks to imply a comparable ability to EXPORT.

Having a technical marketing background, I know that Sales guys can make assumptions based upon what I said. I say, "There are clouds in the sky." They conclude "Oh, so it might rain." even though I made no statement about what kind of clouds (and several types of clouds are not rain clouds)
