Anyone do this kind of repair? If so how much? I saw some services on eBay for this kind of repair for $100 but wanted to know who else can do it. Please send me a PM.

Nick

I see you are in Illinois so you might give United Camera Service Center; Tower Lane Business Park, 1062 Tower Lane, Bensenville, Illinois 60106 a try. Phone is 630.595.2525.

There is a Canon Factory Service at 1440 Chase Ave, (at Lively Blvd), Elk Grove Village, IL 60007. Not sure of the phone but they usually won't give a phone estimate anyway. They typically don't charge for an examination and quote.

There is also a good place in California you might check. The website is http://procamera.net/ (external link). Go there I think you can get an online quote.

Go to http://www.acecam.com/illinois-camera-repair.html (external link) for quite a list of places in the Illinois area.

Are the pins actually snapped off or just bent? I have had good luck carefully pulling them back into place using the tip of a disassembled pen.

Moving forward, probably a good idea to consider getting rid of that card. The usual reasons these problems occur is a card with worn guides or damage in the immediate area where a pin enters the hole on the card. You might try the card manufacturer in case there is a warranty. There are also a fair number of counterfeit cards out there that just don't have the needed quality control.

Also consider not using a card reader, if that is your way of transferring images. As a minimum carefully check any card reader you do use for bent pins. Someone a few months back had a damaged card reader, that then damaged the card, then the camera body. Expensive repair likely and the real cause was a $10 card reader!

There is a good thread on CF card damage and bent pins at https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1127101.

One of the best sites on the bent pin issue (great pictures!) is at http://www.tomguilmette.com/archives/445 (external link) where a bent pin is discussed on a 5DMkII. Note the writer of this thread was able to get a no-charge repair from Canon.
