sell the 55-250 IS or not

is it worth selling my 55-250 IS for the Tamron 70-300 VC UCD I mainly use my Tamron 17-50 and 18-200 but now I was going get rid of the Tamron 18-200 and wanted to know if the 70-300 VC USD is a better lens IQ than the 55-250 which is still in the box never used

I've been scolded before for bad-mouthing the Tamron whenever the topic came up, but I'll do it again. I've owned this lens, as well as the 55-250, which is an excellent bang-for-your-buck performer. I don't think it is worth it to upgrade if you already have the 55-250. If you had no telephoto lens to begin with, then it would make purchasing the Tamron slightly more worth it, but for a couple hundred more, you could get the 70-200 f/4.

Personally, I'd use the 55-250 and save for something that will be a significant upgrade, rather than a slight upgrade.

I find IQ and AF speed to be better on the tamron.

The question is do you need the extra 50mm and do you not like the AF and IQ on the 55-250? (both of which are bad on the 55-250 just not as good as thr 70-300 VC)

If you answer yes to either of those then yes sell and get the tamron. If you answe no then why spend the money when the lens you have does thr job you need?

AF speed is better on the Tamron, but accuracy? Eh, not so much in my experience. I'd rather have "slow" AF that is accurate vs. "fast" AF that is not as consistent. Also, the IQ @ 300mm is nothing to write home about. If you use the 55-250 and crop just a bit tighter, the result should put you right about equal with the Tamron.

thanks i haven't tried the 55-250 or the 18-55 IS i use the 17-50 all the time and if im out walking around in the park or beach just taking random shots i use the 18-200 so i don't have to change the lens which is descent IQ but i wanted to get rid of that lens and was wondering sense they are not being used if it's worth selling the 18-55 IS & 55-250 IS kit lens to add the money to something else but i seen good reviews about the 55-250 so I'll give it a try
