I got the T3i less than a year ago and (if I remember right) it hadn't been out long when I got it.

The T4i actually came out back in June. Magazines are always well behind because entries must be in time for the press deadline.

No fair!

Why don't you want Canon to come out with better products?

The Rebel line is updated about every year. They add a few nice features and a whole lot of gimmicks consumers crave.

Ahh..I hadn't read the article, the way it was written on the cover, I thought it just came out.

The 'no fair' was because it came out so soon after I got the other one. That always happens to me. As soon as I got my Iphone, a better one came out. I was mostly joking though ;)

Staszek- I didn't know they updated them that often. I haven't even begun to master the one I have now!

Which is perfect! Don't get caught up in the upgrade rush. (I did...and looking back, I realize how silly it is.) Just use the one you have for a few years and by the time you've mastered it, there will be a bunch if new technology out and an upgrade at that time will be much more meaningful! :-)

Prior to reading the article were you happy with your camera...if so, it does not make much difference.

It seemed I used to upgrade my computer faster than changing my underwear. These days I do not concern myself with all of the changes like in the past, I make due with the stuff I purchased last month. ;):D

This is one of the reasons for the advice a lot of experienced people here give which is to invest in good glass.

Camera bodies come and go, good lenses will always be good lenses.

If your current body does what you bought it for, don't worry. I always tend to be a model behind (got the 400D/Xti a month before the 450 was released and got the 50D the month after the 60D came out). Why? Because I got a far better deal as it was now "obsolete" despite still doing everything I wanted it to.

Might some day update it but no plans for a few years as I am still the weak point in the chain (great camera, great lenses, idiot behind the viewfinder).

I tend to keep computers for years.

I just took my very obsolete four-year-old Windows XP computer and upgraded it to Windows 7. The same Intel quad-core processor with 4GB RAM and 1TB hard drive works great on Windows 7. Then again, it worked great on Windows XP Pro, too.

I inherited it from my wife last year, when we upgraded her to a new machine with 16GB RAM and two 2TB drives. As always, she gets a new one, I get hers, and mine is donated.

Camera bodies are like cars; they're always obsolete, and the salesmen will insist you need a new one.

I agree with you completely. If one's current body does the job, there is no need to "upgrade."

It is interesting that in this digital age bodies come and go much faster than they ever did in the good old film days.

Yup, the body works just fine. Especially for what I use it for (total hobby). I bought one nice, fairly cheap lens and one pricey lens so that should hold me for awhile.
