You're supposed to take a picture of her, not another toy :)

Congratulations on the present.

I like the 70-200. I only use it outside so I didn't need anything faster. I had a 75-300 that I liked until I was able to enlarge pictures and really scrutinize them.

Honestly though, I like my primes a lot more and plan on growing that collection. Zooms are real nice when you go to the zoo or some other place with limitations on where you can walk.

I really like primes as well, but right now its not cost effective for me to have a CRAP load of primes... I have a 10-22, 50mm 1.8, Tamron 28-75 2.8, and the Kit Lens.

I would like to get a 70-200, 400mm f/5.6 prime, and THINKING of getting a 100mm Macro... But was just going to get a set of Kenko extension tubes as well.

I love primes only becaues im a SUCKER for a SHARP lens.

When I got my first real camera it had a 50mm lens on it. I learned that way. When I started buying zoom lenses I found myself "forgetting" to zoom with the lens and I walked around at one focal length. It took me a while before I realized I just needed to buy some primes and quit spending money on zooms.

i just hate changing lenses all the time. Expecially when your at some place like the zoo.. all dirty/dusty...

Primes to me are like studio lenses... Lenses that you can use in a controled enviroment or for special applications... like portrait or product photography.

If you think the photos are correct, in a situation with a lot of light(using low ISO), you really don't need any tests to tell you if you have a good lens or not.

Keep in mind, even at 2.8 you have to be more dead on. And yes, light can effect that and how much time you put into it. But try to do real world tests, because as much as those tripod, chart tests are good, where its really important is out in the field.

If you really want the bokeh shots, you should probably get a 30 1.4, or 50 1.4 or 85 1.8 which are all similarly priced.

That's certainly true ... or if you can afford a CZJ 135 3.5 then that is the Bokeh/ Crema King IMHO ;)

I know a guy that's selling the f/4 since upgrading to the 2.8. Lemme know if you're interested.

Mods: Not trying to sell on my own...just happened to see this post and know a guy from another forum...thought a connection could be made!
