Detail in HDR images.

I've been using Photomatix now for quite awhile, probably at least 3 - 4 years, and it seems to me I could get more detail on older versions of it than the newest versions.
Even with detail and strength cranked up all the way, just to see what type of detail I could get, it just doesn't seem to compare.
How do you get the most detail from your images in Photomatix without going to outside plugins like Topaz?
I also heard that Lucisart and Lucisartpro are great as well, but any opinions on these ?

Define, or post an an example of, "detail"....

post comparison photos. post an HDR photo done with an older version and post the same photo reprocessed with a newer version to compare.

If I could I would do just that, however I cannot.

Its just I have older images that seem to have more detail than the newer ones I'm doing in Photomatix. I asked this about a year ago in a thread on Flickr, and someone told me to try an older version, but older versions don't work as well.
