I wonder, Canon's widest/fastest prime is 24 1.4L II
This is for example handy for shots out of hand in darker conditions with a lot of background, for example my hobby (urbex photography).

Mostly I use 17-40 2.8L on tripod at higher aperture f8 for room shots, with long shutterspeed or HDR.
But sometimes I take detail shots of objects with my 35 1.4L out of hand.

I thought of replacing 17-40L with 24 1.4LII but 17mm is a lot wider than 24mm, so it's no real advantage as it's not wide enough.
I had 16-35 2.8L II allready, but sold it as it's only 1 stop faster, not fast enough for urbex detail pics out of hand and double the price, not worth it.

Sometimes I use the 15 2.8 fisheye for spectacular ceilings,... but a fisheye is not always usuable.

What would you think of a 16 1.4L instead of 24 1.4L II ? :-)
I guess alternative brands like Tamron/Sigma/Tokina don't have something like this either?

Let me know when you find a 16 ƒ1.4 - I'm dying for one too.

Yeah I just don't understand why Canon makes 24 at f1.4 and 14 + 15mm at f2.8, maybe the widest primes need more glass which results in light loss?

Probably has to do with getting acceptable performance out toward edge of image area at 1.4.

Yeah, wide and fast is a dubiously complex task to get right.

It's just a matter of physics, I am sure.

the widest prime from canon is a EF14mm f/2.8L

so it's significantly wider than your hoped for 16, although I'd love for it to be f/1.4!
