I purchased an OLY E-PL2 from Costco. It was $300, so I figured that camera with the kit lens would give me high quality photos at a premium point-and-shoot cost. I bought it with the intention of it complementing my DSLR, and did not really plan on "buying into the system" by getting more lenses.
I got it about a month ago and it mostly collects dust. The only times I've shot with it was just to try it out. When I really want to actually take photos, I've taken my XSi and now my new 60D. I find that increasingly what I've been doing is if I know I want to take photos, then I don't mind lugging the 60D. And in any other situation, my iPhone 4S produces nice acceptable snapshots.
The E-PL2 produces terrific pictures imo, but is definitely not "compact". It's smaller/ lighter than a DSLR setup, but not pocketable. It's no more or less convenient then carrying around the XSi with a small lens (like the nifty fifty) attached, although the E-PL's lens is a zoom so gives me more flexibility.
So I'm a bit torn here. I can return it and apply that money towards a new lens (I've been thinking of the 35mm f/2 or maybe the 40mm pancake which I could attach to the XSi and use as a walkaround type setup). But then again it's an inexpensive (relatively speaking) fairly convenient camera that takes terrific pictures, so maybe I should keep it around? Maybe I'm missing something or an obvious scenario when I'd miss the E-PL2 that I'm not thinking of right now?
