After finally finding a 5Dc deal that worked out, and impatiently waiting and tracking my package through the USPS website, it wasn't delivered. It has it marked that it has been, but no package ever got sent to my house. I figured maybe since it was a Saturday that the guy marked it as delivered and then was going to bring it back Monday, but I received nothing today either. I've never had something like this happen to me using USPS, but of course it does when it's the thing I want most coming...

The seller is going to call USPS and I'm going to as well to open a claim, but this blows.
Has anybody else had a bad experience with them?

I hate to say throw this out there, but is there a chance the package was stolen?

Sorry to hear about your aggravation Nick. Does the USPS actually confirm that it was delivered to YOUR address? And do they say where it was placed, like in a hidden box or out in the open? If it was sitting out that's asking for trouble.

So far I've been fortunate with them, but you may want to check with neighbors. Now and then I get something from a couple of doors down - it happens.........unfortunatley.

Ouch, hopefully you two can get it worked out with USPS!

I like to do signature confirmation for more expensive items... My insurance covers my gear as well, if they did lose it so I can claim it under personal (confirmed with my state farm agent).

Good luck!

Which is why I always hate when they don't have signature confirmation on high ticket items. Especially from non-retail establishments that can easily refund you for a lost package.

call your local post office or call the 1800 number and ask to open a claim. Also, talk to your postman to find out who delivered on that day and if they remembered delivering it to your place.

it happened to me, but in my case the package was delivered to an address that had the same number markings but wrong street.

I had the same problem with UPS when I lived in the US. They either left $800 worth of PC parts on my step, unsigned for and wide open for theft, or left that stupid yellow signature slip for a $50 part I desperately need.

I've never contested a lost package, but I would think they will never take the blame and just say you should of purchased insurance. I hope it never comes to that and you get your package soon.

Has anybody else had a bad experience with them?

Our business has had quite a few Bermuda Triangle packages going overseas, even though the percentage out of total sent is very low. But what galls me is there is NO compensation unless you've bought insurance. The USPS philosophy here is out-of-sight = out-of-mind.

I must say there are great people working at lower level USPS, but once you get up into the hiearchy, you find that government agencies have a point of diminishing returns, IOW, it is a "behemoth" institution with NO accountability - NONE, ZERO. If it was a for profit business, it would have died long ago. These are unionized people making HUGE salaries and bennies that don't give a damn about how inefficient their institution functions.

They will put a trace on the "lost" package but don't hold your breath. I have talked to very high-ups in the system and was told that there are employees working in the hubs that have preprinted labels with their own addresses on them that they can simply place over the original address. Pretty neat trick, huh? A "lost" package simply cannot just bounce out of a truck without someone finding and returning it, there is just NO other explanation unless it was somehow crushed and then tossed into the trash bin.

Let's hope you have some luck (you'll need it).

I would put a stop to the payment process, if you have that capability. And like Nicholas R. stated

They will put a trace on the "lost" package but don't hold your breath.

My experience based on many years of shiping in the business world is it isn't worth their time/effort to even look for the package unless a relatively high value of insurance is on the item. USPS doesn't even included insurance, it is a shipper option. UPS includes something like $125 so no visibility; easier to just pay up. Pay for a $1000 of insurance, all of a sudden it gets high visibility and a search is initiated.

You also are faced with the issue that the package was supposedly delivered so I see a "shouting match".

If you paid with standard PayPal and the seller didn't purchase insurance and use signature confirmation I think you will win a claim. It is the seller's responsibility to get you the item.

i've had a couple of problems with USPS where the packages were lost and never delivered...I'm hesitant to ship anything with them without insurance, I've been burned too many times.

Bummer, I'd hate to screw the seller if I was you though. If nothing comes of it and you can't get money from the post office I'd recommend getting half your money back and the both of you can chalk it up to a life lesson, always get insurance, always.
