Any of you guys know if this fits the EF300L version I?

I hate the leather cap of the original model, and use a Lenscoat replacement, but this doesn't work if you travel with the hood reversed.

Many thanks if any of you can help :)

There was a similar thread on FM last month asking the same question and the answer was "yes".

Anyone aware of a third party copy that doesn't cost eighty quid like the official Canon Canon E-145 C Lens Cap?

Canon take the biscuit some times

I have one of these www.donzecklenscap.com (external link) I got it with my 300 MK II when I brought it used. They are a bit expensive but what the hell, its a great cap and works perfectly. I am happy to recommend it as far as function and quality are concerned, only you can decide if its worth the money.

Cheers, RAW

edit; The cap is very well built, it fits perfectly and is practically bullet proof.

Better coverage? This cap covers the lens. Can you explain what you mean?

I want a hood over the entire lens when it's off on it's travels.

A very weird question

My apologies, I thought you wanted a replacement lens cover. I use the case but it is bulky. I would suggest getting some neoprene wet suit material and some velcro and making exactly what you want. My guess is that will be quicker, cheaper and easier that trying to find something already made.

I have a similar question, but with a twist.

I have the 300 2.8 L USM (the NON-IS) lens, and my question is - does the E-145C fit on my lens?

As far as I understand these are the different accessories, see below. Based on the numbers, the E-145C might fit but have a somewhat loose fit on my 300 2.8 NON-IS lens. Anyone tried?

EF 300 2.8 L USM
- lens cap E-137
- lens hood ET-118 / ET-118 II

EF 300 2.8 L IS USM
EF 400 4.0 DO IS USM
- lens cap E-145
- lens hood ET-120

EF 300 2.8 L IS II USM
- lens cap E-145C
- lens hood ET-120(W II)

Old thread but I'm looking for a lens cap for my 300 IS. Most of them seem way too expensive.

The Hoodie actually seems like a great solution. They recommend the XX Large for this lens; the lens hood is 5.75" diameter on each end so it's right in the middle of the stated range of 5.5 to 6.25 whether the hood is normal or reversed. It's not clear to me if the cover has a notch to fit over the hood clamp, but for $17.50 I can make a hole if it needs one.

Without the hood the lens is about 5.25" so if you want to carry the lens that way you might want to try the X Large, which has a stated diameter range of 4.75-5.25.

I suppose a potential downside to the Hoodie (and an advantage for the Etsy product) is that the hoodie may be flexible enough to be pushed in and contact the front element which is 3/4" recessed from the front rim of the lens.

Image editing and C&C always OK
